Nissan creates the ultimate “self-healing” iPhone case

You’ll never know how fast your reflex is until your iPhone slips out of your grasp and starts falling, falling, and falling, as if in slow motion. Suddenly, as if with all the superhero power that you “happen” to possess, what do you do? You try to save it.

If you’ve an iPhone bumper, you’re probably safe-ish. An iPhone casing and maybe you’re safer. But even bumpers and casings wear and tear over time after multiple drops.

And for that, Nissan will be your prayer answered. Introducing Nissan’s The Nissan Scratch Shield. It’s a self-repair iPhone case that was the result of some impressive work by the automobile manufacturer who has enabled an outer casing that heals itself. Just like some of their cars.

Apparently, it solely relies on the outer paint, made from polyrotaxane. What is this polyrotaxane we speak of, you ask? It’s basically paint that has a chemical structure that’s able to react and change back to its original shape, filling gaps and such from scratches.

Hmm. We’re just wondering if Apple and Nissan will do a little thing together to have the material incorporated in the phone chasis. Eureka?

Because “The Nissan Scratch Shield” iPhone case is still in beta, nobody has any idea how much it will cost but we foresee it being mass produced and released later this year. That is, if the demand is substantial!
