Saujana Golf and Country Club has a well kept secret and we’re here to share it with you. If you’re a fan for vibrant Cantonese and Sze Chuan cuisine, then listen up.
The Ti Chen restaurant at Saujana Golf and Country Club has opened its doors once again to diners after a major refurbishment and features an interior that evokes an atmosphere of elegance with its high rise pillars, rustic beams and carved wooden chairs with custom made upholstery.
The name “Ti Chen” itself means “Palace of the Emperor”.
The chefs at Ti Chen have meticulously prepared different prosperity set menus too! There are four sets to choose from:
1. Pearl (RM888 with a bottle of Mesterio Cab Sauv Red Wine)
2. Jade (RM988 with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 Year Old)
3. Golden (RM1388 with a bottle of Hennessey V.S.O.P)
4. Emperor (RM2288 with a bottle of Singleton Single Malt Whisky 12 Years Old)
Chinese New Year came early for us yet again this year as we were invited to dine at Ti Chen at The Saujana Hotel to sample their new year offerings.
Every year, at the start of every reunion dinner, diners expect to kick off the meal with Yee Sang and we’re so used to it that it would be a crime to not serve this colorful raw fish salad with ingredients that have specific meanings attributed to it.
As much as we looked forward to the grand finale of tossing it all together, our host at Saujana graciously enlightened us the meaning of each ingredient that went into their Salmon Yee Sang.
If you have no idea what goes into this refreshing rainbow colored delicacy, here’s a quick walkthrough: there’s radish, carrot, pickled red and green capsicum, turnip, ginger and jellyfish as well as crunchy and crisp toasted sesame seeds, chopped peanuts, Chinese shrimp crackers, fried dried shrimps and with a dressing made primarily of plum sauce and sugar and five spice powder.
Oh and not forgetting thinly sliced raw fish or sashimi of your choice like tuna or salmon.
If you’re looking to have just their Yee Sang, Ti Chen offers a variety of Yee Sangs to choose from such as:
1. Abalone Yee Sang
2. Salmon Yee Sang
3. Rainbow Yee Sang
4. Jelly Fish Yee Sang
5. Vegetarian Goose Yee Sang
(They come in three different sizes priced from RM38 onwards)
The first main dish of the day was the Roasted Chicken Tong Kwai. The meat was tender and aromatic thanks to the herbal Tong Kwai, and the crispy skin just made this dish all the more perfect. Just make sure to start digging in as soon as it arrives at your table to enjoy its crispiness!
Now that we’ve had something from the land, now here’s something from the sea: Stir Fried Prawns with Seasonal Salt and Steamed Red Snapper Fish with Superior Soya Sauce. These are familiar dishes to most Chinese and every bite reminded us of home when grandma used to cook these when we were kids.
If you hate eating prawns because of the hassle that comes with shelling them, fret not because these are deep fried to crisp perfection that you can consume the whole prawn, shell and all!
Next up was the Braised Sea Cucumber with Fish Maw, Dried Oysters and Fatt Choy fenced with fresh green brocollis and glazed in a thick, delicious gravy that enhances the taste of the ingredients in it.
We were told that it’s best eaten with the Chef Special “Loh Mai Fun” or commonly known as sticky lotus rice with generous bits of dried shrimp and even though sticky rice is known to be more filling, we couldn’t help ourselves from having second helpings, and then a third, then fourth, you see where this is going don’t you? Our hips, that’s what but oh, it was so worth it!
For dessert we were served refreshing mochi balls with red bean filling with just the right amount of sweetness to sum up what every reunion dinner should be like.
