Gucci has finally joined the ranks of other luxury labels including Stella McCartney, Giorgio Armani, and Hugo Boss, amongst others, to officially go fur-free, beginning with its 2018 Spring collection. This is a major shift for the Italian fashion house in light of its iconic and bestselling items, which include fur-lined mules and head-turning fur coats.

According to CEO Marco Bizarri, Gucci will be a part of the Fur Free Alliance, which ensures that the label will no longer use any animal fur, comprising raccoon dog, coyote, mink, fox, rabbit, karakul, and other species bred for its fur. Evidently, many anti-fur activists, which include many fashion designers and celebrities, are delighted with the announcement.

“Being socially responsible is one of Gucci’s core values, and we will continue to strive to do better for the environment and animals. With the help of HSUS and LAV, Gucci is excited to take this next step and hopes it will help inspire innovation and raise awareness, changing the luxury fashion industry for the better,” Bizarri mentioned.
