Nars Cosmetics has always remained one of our favourite go-to brands with the coolest collaborations and exciting launches, but the French cosmetics and skincare brand is now under fire for giving up its cruelty-free status to tap into the market in China.
Animal testing is a compulsory procedure for foreign cosmetics companies looking to expand their business in China and Nars fans across the globe clearly aren’t taking the news well, some even threatening to stop buying Nars products while expressing their displeasure with #saynotoanimaltesting and #stopanimalcruelty comments.
On June 27, Nars also took to Instagram to shed some light on its recent move.
Since the announcement was made, the overwhelming backlash hasn’t been given rest, despite Nars saying that the company will seek to explore “alternative testing methods”, adding, “We are proud to support the Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS), a globally recognised organization at the forefront of advancing non-animal methods in China and around the world. NARS is hopeful that together, we can work toward a cruelty-free world.”
What is your stance on Nars’ big switch? Will you be saying goodbye to your Sheer Glow Foundation, Radiant Creamy Concealer, the Charlotte Gainsbourg collection or the new Orgasm additions? Here is what some Twitter users have said:
Nars just a heads up, your greed for more money and losing your CF status for China is gonna backfire. So many customers will go elsewhere.

I’ve been wanting to try Nars things, but now they’re not cruelty free anymore. This is truly disappointing. Another company being a sellout
