A Balenciaga bag till today retains its position as the fashion item for the rich and famous, but the creative team behind the French luxury label have now become the fashion industry’s biggest trolls.
Last year, its Fall/Winter 2016 ‘It’ bag made headlines for its resemblance to those cheap, utilitarian Asian shopping bags that get trundled down the streets everywhere in our country.

For 2017, Balenciaga is back at it again with its Blanket Square XL bag, which costs a whopping US$3,500, or approximately RM15,462.
Essentially a lambskin tote with floral prints and handmade twisted nappa handles, the problem with it is that it looks exactly like the plastic casings we keep blankets or comforters in before stashing them away.
There is a Balenciaga label on the aforementioned bag from the 2017 Spring/Summer collection, and you may think the whole thing is just a big mistake, but nope.
On Net-A-Porter where the bag is sold, it deliberately states that the Italy crafted bag is “inspired by classic blanket bags”.

We will never be able to justify spending that much of moolah on the grandma/pasar malam bag, but props have to be given to Balenciaga for the bizarre yet money-making idea.
After all, there’s no such thing as bad publicity, right?
