Eggs aren’t exactly new to the beauty world. It’s been incorporated in to beauty products via face washes/ DIY masks with a promise to brighten, tighten and other eggy goodness for your skin.
But all of that is nothing as compared to what beauty bloggers are doing with eggs now. Think Beauty Blender…but with an egg. Like, an actual hard boiled egg.
The trend began with a vlogger named Nadi, who started a series called “Project Object”, which describes as a challenge to do his makeup with any “tool” that commenters request. Makeup artist Esther Gbudje soon followed with her own version on Instagram.
The premise is simple – go through your normal makeup routine, but instead of reaching for your sili-sponge, egg shaped Beauty Blender, what have yous, peel a hardboiled egg and um, just use that.
Just be careful not to squeeze tightly, unless you want smushed egg all over your face. Also, maybe don’t eat the egg?
Nadi points out that the egg is like a “really cool Silisponge,” so maybe you could chill the egg overnight (unpeeled) if you’re aiming to depuff your morning face. Beautyblenders are shaped like eggs because the two different points allow for greater versatility as you bounce the sponge off your face to blend in your makeup.
A hard-boiled egg isn’t porous and would provide the same benefits as a Silisponge in terms of maximizing how much product you use. But is this really how we wanna start using eggs?
Okay, so we probably shouldn’t be all that surprised. Beauty bloggers have used weirder products to apply makeup, like these people using condoms on their faces. But this is for sure – applying makeup with an egg beats applying makeup with an unwashed sponge.
Our two cents: There’s no harm in using an egg as a blender. They’re cheaper than most beauty blenders anyway. But maybe, just maybe, when everyone runs out of things to apply makeup with, they could consider using their God given fingers?
Just a thought.
