The first trailer has been released for a new live-action adaptation of the infamous classic fairy-tale The Little Mermaid, but relax, it’s not the one from Disney and Lin-Manuel Miranda, nor the other one Universal was developing with Chloë Grace Moretz.
Phew.
Produced by Conglomerate Media and Kingsway Productions, this film follows the story of a magical creature who is being controlled by someone who has a part of her, which is her soul, while in the animated film, it’s her voice.
In this story, a young reporter (William Moseley) is sent to a small town in Mississippi to investigate a story about a woman who is really a mermaid. His younger sister (Loreto Peralta) meets the mermaid (Poppy Drayton), who tells her there is a legend among her people about a little girl who is blessed with the soul of a mermaid.
Directed and written by Blake Harris and Chris Bouchard, the film also includes Shirley MacLaine, Gina Gershon, and Armando Gutierrez as the magical casts. The Little Mermaid is slated for release this summer.
