Since H&M first launched its worldwide Garment Collecting initiative in 2013, the company has collected over 40,000 tonnes of clothing.

In an effort to close the loop on fashion and prevent wasting garments from going to landfills, H&M is calling for a worldwide movement to hand in unwanted garments so they can be reused or recycled, giving customers an easy solution for their excess clothes.

Kicking off this year’s Garment Collecting campaign, a brand new film directed by Chrystal Moselle titled Bring It has been released, featuring the journey of unwanted garments after they have been collected in store. The film further illustrates how the lifespan of a garment can be increased to keep it in the loop for as long as possible.

In 2014, H&M also introduced its first Close the Loop collection made with recycled textile fibers, an important step in closing the loop for fashion, where unwanted clothes can be reused and recycled to create fresh textile fibers for new products.

In turn, this will help to save natural resources and ensure that zero garments are wasted in the landfill. Good effort, H&M! The Garment Collecting Initiative is available through all H&M outlets near you.
