Hungarian socialite and actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, who is popularly known as a classic American icon, has died at the age of 99.
The former beauty queen and probably the first celebutante in the Hollywood Golden Age died around 1pm on Sunday in Los Angeles.
She had been ill since being hospitalised in July 2010. She had a hip replacement surgery but later returned to the hospital many times for treatment of swelling and clots. Her right leg also had to be amputated due to gangrene.
In a statement, her representative and publicist since 1989 Edward Lozzi said in a statement, “She did not suffer fools well.”
“Zsa Zsa Gabor was one tough cookie. Her beautiful lips and mouth would also be her worst enemy when and if she turned on the verbal machine gun. Most of her problems originated from that beautiful mouth.
“Zsa Zsa Gabor will always be an American icon and the klieg in the Gabor-Hilton dynasty.”
She’s had multiple marriages and a film and TV career, which later made her a punchline or caricature, known for her run-in with a Beverly Hills cops. Rest in peace..
