Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, take the year end as an opportunity to show your love and appreciation towards the people you really care about, like your parents. After all they’ve done for you throughout your many years of life, here’s how you can make their Christmas a little more special this year.
1. Write them a letter or if their tech-savvy, send them an email of all the things you’re thankful for. Tell them how you feel and update them on your life even if you’re staying in the same house because sometimes we articulate ourselves better in words.
2. As we get older, our memory deteriorates so help your folks remember the good old days by getting them a photobook of your family trips together or better, a digital photo frame with their favourite memories intact.
3. When we’re old, we try to experience as many things while we still can so surprise your parents with a fully paid weekend getaway or holiday, just the two of them.
4. Give them a big “ang pow” if you’re not sure of what they want. Let them get what they need themselves.
5. If your parents are well to do and don’t need anything, give a donation to charity in their names instead.
6. Gift vouchers from their favourite restaurants or departmental store.
7. If your parents love reading, get them the gift of a million books in a single Kindle, namely the spanking awesome Kindle Fire where they can add books, audio books, magazines and newspaper subscriptions. Never again will they misplace their books.
8. We’re lucky to have tons of artistes who make Malaysia as part of their tour stops and we’re pretty sure it’d be pretty to sweet to have singers like Elton John, Olivia Newton John, Richard Clayderman, Cliff Richard and Air Supply swooning our parents like teenagers all over again.
Buying a gift for your parents is simply not enough because we owe them so much more than that. What they really want is for you to take time off from your busy schedule to spend some time with them, have dinner and don’t forget to hug them. It’ll mean the world to them.
