U.S. online retail giant Amazon is slated to expand its presence in Asia and selected services, like Prime and its AmazonFresh grocery service, have been planned to be launched in Singapore within the first quarter of 2017.
This follows after existing ventures in Asia, such as pumping $3 billion into India, and introducing its Prime service in China.
Sources have mentioned that Amazon is quietly acquiring new assets, including refrigerated trucks, and hiring, as part of an initiative led by Amazon’s head of ASEAN Steven Scrive.
Singapore is an obvious choice as its level of consumer culture and spending power is closely equivalent with Western markets where Amazon has been thriving for years.
Amazon may also be established in Indonesia in the near future.
