Did you know that 1 in 4 women in Malaysia own more than 10 bras in their lingerie drawers? About 80% of them admit that their unworn bras are either brand new or simply do not fit anymore. Even with the surplus of ill-fitting bras in women’s lingerie drawers nationwide, only 15% of women recycle or donate these bras away. The rest? They end up in landfills after festering at the bottom of closets – giving textiles one of the poorest recycling rates of any reusable materials.
Which is why we’re thrilled that Neubodi has been committed in helping to curb the situation through a charity campaign. In its’ fourth year, this year’s theme is “DONATE. SUPPORT. RECYCLE”.
DONATE
From 22 September to 7 November 2016, Neubodi will once again open up their “Bra Banks” to commence the second-hand bra collection campaign. This year, Neubodi partners with Asha Nepal, a non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating women who suffered as victims of sex trafficking. The used bras will be donated to these women to encourage them to step into society with confidence once again.
SUPPORT
As October marks the International Breast Cancer Awareness month, Neubodi formed an alliance with the Breast Cancer Welfare Association of Malaysia (BCWA), of which its primary aim is to create awareness that early detection saves lives and to communicate to the public the harmful effects of wearing the wrong bra. Neubodi also designed an exclusive “Pink Bra” that is affordably priced at RM55 and is wearable for all women. For every Pink Bra purchased, RM10 will be donated to BCWA to fund an outreach program designated to help breast cancer patients on their road to recovery.
RECYCLE
After 3 years of collecting second-hand bras, Neubodi realised that more than 75% of bras collected are either in very poor condition or too worn out. Hence, these bras are discarded as they’re unfit for further donation, which led Neubodi to partner up with RPF (Refuse Paper and Plastic Fuel) Industry Association to recycle discarded bras. A state-of-the-art technology is used to convert raw materials of bras into reusable solid fuel, commonly used to power industrial boilers and generators. This commitment is the first of its’ kind in Malaysia, dedicated to reducing landfills significantly.
Got some unused bras you’re thinking of donating? The campaign will be running from 22 September 2016 – 6 November 2016 in all Neubodi specialty stores near you. Just find the “Bra Banks” outside their stores and drop them in. 😉
