National Day was back in August, but it seems like some people might have missed the memo. Nine enthusiastic (and smashed) Australians strutted around in undies bearing a Malaysian-flag print at the Grand Prix event over the weekend, and while it was probably done in the name of good fun without much thought put into it, Malaysian authorities think otherwise..

Upon learning of Ricciardo’s victory, the eager men — aged 25-29 — stripped their clothes off to celebrate and show their support to the racer. They were holding up an Australian flag, while wearing the Malaysian-themed underwear with the words “budgy smuggler” across the back.

Unfortunately, they were arrested around the time the race ended. The case is being investigated for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace and public indecency. Jack Walker — adviser for Australian Defense Minister, Christopher Pyne — was one of the men arrested.

Thinking it was an acceptable thing to do, the clueless dudes — who had no intention to offend any parties — bought the undergarments from an Australian swimwear brand based in Sydney, and they cost $55 each. The company also sells briefs with prints of the Brazilian, US, French and Japanese flags, among others.
