Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel has just announced that Snapchat will be called Snap Inc from here on out, and that the social network will also sell glasses with cameras built in with the lenses, called Spectacles. They cost US$129 per pair.

To record with the glasses, all you have to do is press a button on the side of the frames. Just like in the app, you can only record a 10-second clip at a time, and the video will sync to your Snapchat account on your smartphone.

The camera lens on the Spectacles has an angle of 115 degrees, so the videos captured will appear wider than that of the iPhone. The videos will also be circular.

We’d give those glasses a pass, but just in case you’re interested, they will only be available for limited purchase, and they come in black, teal or coral. You may await them this fall.

This signals a whole new era for the popular social networking app and we’re okay with it, as long as they don’t take away our favourite filters!
