Monkey Shoulder Brings Back The Retro Konga Shaker

Ash, The Vault

It was a night of cocktails galore at Coppersmith, Troika, as four mixologists hailing from different backgrounds took the bar to whip up their signature cocktail. And the feat was accomplished with the innovative Konga Shaker, together with the smooth and sweet Monkey Shoulder blended malt scotch whisky.

The Konga shaker is a cylindrical apparatus with rotating handles, allowing cocktails to be made using a rolling motion, instead of the traditional shaking. It was once a must-have item back in the 1930s, but was lost to history as mainstream cocktail shakers rose to popularity.

Now the Monkey Shoulder has remastered the Konga shaker to regain the throne, with an improved facade and added features. It retains its stainless steel cylinder and plastic handles, and has an in-built sieve that allows drinks to be sieved for the perfect pour. Its larger size of 1.5l allows for up to four cocktails to be made at one go, thus cutting down on waiting time.

It’s also really quiet, making it possible for bartenders to have an interrupted conversation with customers while making the cocktail.

Monkey Shoulder’s Southeast Asia Ambassador Jay Gray said, “We’ve been itching to launch the Konga Shaker in the region for awhile now. I’m stoked about the enthusiastic response we’ve gotten from the local bartending community, and can’t wait for consumers to get in on the fun by trying out some pretty great cocktails at select bars in the city.”

If you want to catch the Konga Shaker in action, just head over to PS150, Coppersmith, Rils Bangsar and The Vault from the 12th of September until 11th of October 2016.
