Starting June, vehicles in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur will get a new prefix for registration plates. “F” (for Putrajaya) and “V” (for Kuala Lumpur) will be assigned to both the federal territories, following a request from Putrajaya Corporation (PPj).
This is done to encourage car owners to bid for fancier numbers or more popular numbers for their registration plates.
As for bidding for the golden number (one digit), a notice will be issued by the Road Transport Department (RTD) at the end of this month.
As such, the current algorithm in Kuala Lumpur that starts off with “W 1 A” from September 2013, will retire in stages beginning mid-July.
A bidding craze is also expected to begin for the “F 1” number plate.
