Malaysia is slated to adopt the multi-lane free flow (MLFF) system for highways by year 2020. This means that toll booth plazas will be omitted, enabling motorists to drive through quicker with cashless payment.
This will be achieved with an Electronic Cashless (ETC) system which will be implemented in stages, after the single lane free flow is introduced in 2019. The system works via the use of a sticker installed on vehicles with stored money value for payment and will be backed by a service provider currently offered by Touch ‘N Go.
The Transport Ministry is targeting 126 toll plazas to implement the system, and for cash payment for tolls to cease by 2018. Perhaps, this new system would mark an end to the horrendous traffic congestions at toll plazas throughout our country! 😀
