After the recent protest by taxi drivers against Uber and GrabCar services at Bukit Bintang, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has been urged to the speed up the process of licensing Uber drivers.
This was supported by the Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai who agreed that Uber drivers should be regulated. He said the Uber drivers need to obtain a license for commercial vehicles and get their cars inspected by the Puspakom.
“I agree that the Uber services can be continued but it needs to be regulated,” he said after launching the “Jom! Stronger Together Carnival” at Wisma MCA.
According to him, SPAD had called up Uber over the issue and he hopes that the commission would speed up the process.
