Earlier, the attendees of the American Music Awards (AMAs) 2011 sat all warm and fuzzy when Justin Bieber, fresh out of his recent baby daddy drama, took the stage to perform his festive hit, “Mistletoe”:
The song was taken right out of yet another one of his chart-topping albums, this Christmas’ “Under the Mistletoe”.
While everyone expected both teen sensation Justin Bieber and his “Love You Like A Love Song” girlfriend, Selena Gomez, to rock the AMAs together with a duet, the two young stars didn’t.
Audiences around the world did, however, manage to catch both Justin and Selena being totally diabetes-inducing affectionate on the red carpet at the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles.
The night opened when Nicki Minaj fiercely stormed onto the stage dressed in a metallic outfit that had two large speakers on her bottom.
Recently, Nicki rocked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2011 with an exclusive performance alongside the “Angels” and just hours ago, she gave her best in a performance backed by music spun by French DJ (also DJ Mag 2011’s World #1 DJ) David Guetta:
She also went on to win the “Rap/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year” and “Favourite Rap/Hip Hop” awards. All eyes on her now cause this woman is making it big!
With the “Moves Like Jagger”, Maroon 5 then sauntered onto the AMAs stage to accept the award for “Pop Rock Band/Duo/Group”. While onstage, we heard the super-hot Maroon 5 frontman, Adam Levine, thank their fans for voting the band its first award.
In a short but sweet speech, he said, “To get one of these, you have to have loyal fans”. Well, which fan wouldn’t be loyal when you look like that, Adam?
A thousand cameras were also angled at other show-stopping celebrities such as Taylor Swift, who not only sashayed down the red carpet looking like a million dollars in a beautiful golden gown; she also went home with the “Country Favorite Female Artist” award (for the fourth straight year) and the “Favourite Country Album” award.
Truth be told, we’re not surprised. There were certainly no contenders for sweet, country girl Miss Swift!
And, not many people who knew this prior to the AMAs would know this by now – Katy Perry, decked in an Eastern-inspired, gorgeous, strapless gown was thoughtfully handpicked to be given the award for “First Woman To Have Five #1 Singles From One Album”.
We didn’t know there was such an award but we know she’s fully deserving of it! She then took everyone’s breaths away with an acoustic performance of her latest song, “The One Who Got Away”:
Next, sizzling hot booty-shaking Jennifer Lopez turned up the heat at the AMAs alongside Pitbull with a earth-shattering performance:
The 42-year-old singer also walked home with the AMAs’ “Latin Music Artist of the Year” award. J Lo claimed that she didn’t expect to win and well, we don’t believe her.
After a performance like that, obviously the sexy Jennifer has still got it!
The big win of the night was of course, none other than country sweetheart Taylor Swift who was only too ecstatic to add yet another one to her collection when she was announced the winner of AMAs’ “Artiste of the Year”. We say, “big win” because she beat the likes of Lil Wayne, Adele (who had the leading nominatinons), Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga.
Wow?
In an extremely grateful acceptance speech, she said, “Thank you to the fans, please never change! You’re the reason why I’m here!“. Why, you’re most welcome, Miss Swift!
