We love Calvin Klein’s #mycalvins ads as they feature many familiar faces like Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Miranda Kerr and more. Having said that, the popular American fashion label is in hot water for its recent #MoreThanMyUnderwear billboard in New York.
Heidi Zak, the CEO and co-founder of ThirdLove sent an email to Nylon, addressing it to Calvin Klein regarding an image that portrayed Fetty Wap and Klara Kristin side by side. Zak stated that the captions for each celeb on the image was propagating ‘gender stereotypes’ – men are the ones who make a living and women are nothing but sexual objects.
Many netizens have petitioned for the removal of the ad, which are under Calvin Klein’s #MoreThanMyUnderwear slew of advertisements. Calvin Klein has since removed the ad after much backlash.
Calvin Klein has since announced in a statement that the brand takes all consumers’ concerns seriously and as part of a global brand, Calvin Klein promotes gender equality and the breakdown of gender stereotypes across the world.
