The subsidy for the 25-kg bag of wheat flour will be taken away today, and this will ultimately cause a price hike for certain foods. Without the subsidy, a 25kg-bag of flour is now priced at RM42 in Peninsula Malaysia.
A flour importer stated that food prices for roti canai and local snacks (kuih), which contain all purpose flour will have an impact from the subsidy removal. He also said that food containing premium flour like bread, biscuits and cakes will NOT be effected.
The Government will maintain the RM1.35 subsidised price for the 1kg-bag of wheat flour, popular for households, such as the Blue Key and Bunga Cempaka brands.
We’re not cool with more expensive roti canai! 🙁
