Q: Your fifth album, Confident, has a very mature sentiment to it, and just the whole vibe of it is different. Tell us how it’s different from any other albums you’ve done before.
A: My music will continue to mature as I continue to grow personally and professionally. This album is very close to heart and full of personal messages that I think everyone can relate to.
Q: It must have been insane to be working with Robert Rodriguez and Michelle Rodriguez for your upcoming “Confident” video! How did this come about?
A: It was an honour to work with Robert and Michelle on this video. I worked with Robert in the past and was very excited for him direct this video.
Q: “Cool For The Summer” and “Confident” are both fun, very strong, powerful and empowering tracks. What do you love most about these two tracks you’ve released?
A: I think you nailed it – they are both fun and powerful!
Q: You’ve grown to be quite the bad*ss and we LOVE that about you. Why is it important to you to inspire young women to love themselves and be powerful?
A: At a young age it was hard for me to accept myself. It took a while for me to get to the place that I’m in today but I’ve never been happier and I want young women AND men to know that there’s light at the end of the tunnel and that they are beautifully and wonderfully made.
Q: You’re also very open about your past and your sobriety with your fans. What motivates you to stay healthy and be accountable to yourself?
A: For me, it’s about living a healthy lifestyle. I’m not interested in going back down that dark path. Sometimes all it takes is realizing how far I’ve come and far I want to go.
Q: By the way, your body looks AMAZING! Do you have any fitness or health regimes you practice and would like to share with us?
A: Thank you! I’m on a meal plan and work out with an incredible trainer several days a week.
Q: With that, what do you have to say about unhealthy body ideals and harmful body shaming crazes like having the thigh gap, or the prominent collarbone that’s all over the Internet?
A: I think it’s crazy! No one should ever feel ashamed of the way they were made.
