Years after he was last crowned as world No.1 DJ, his name still rolls off people’s tongues as one of the true superstars of dance music. He was the first DJ to perform a solo concert for a sold-out stadium when h performed for over 25,000 people in Arnhem’s GelreDome in 2003. He also the first and only DJ to play at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens.
If that wasn’t enough to bring a DJ’s career to its pinnacle, in 2005, a wax sculpture of him was placed behind a turntable at Madame Tussauds in Amsterdam. It was a true testament to his fame. No wonder he was world No.1 DJ for so many consecutive years (2002 to 2004)! And really, how many DJs can say the same about themselves?
If you haven’t guessed it by now, yes, we’re talking about the one and only Tijs Michiel Verwest, also known as DJ Tiësto.
Back in 2004, Tiësto performed at the very first Found @ Thirst and it was the first time that his show incorporated a DJ competition where one of our very own local acts, DJ Blink, was discovered and was given the opportunity to tour across South East Asia with Tiësto himself.
Six years later, Tiësto is just about to return to the decks at the Welcome Centre of Sepang International Circuit, on the 10th of December 2011! His shows have pioneered the use of light shows, lasers, and LED screens. And over the past decade, the Dutchman has blazed a path that all the other DJs and producers have had to follow.
At the exclusively themed Heineken Thirst 2011, Tiësto (flanked by our locals acts such as DJ Blink, Phil K Lee, Winner of Found @ Thirst DJ competition, Runner-up of Found @ Thirst DJ competition, and other special guests) will bring you a full-scale theatrical production of a live show, a parallel universe where music, art and motion graphics collide to stunning effect:
