The first MasterChef Asia will be premiering 3rd September 2015 at 9pm on Lifetime (Astro 709) and three Malaysians are in the running for the Masterchef Asia title. Jasbir Kaur, Marcus Low and Sophia Zulkifli are taking centre stage for the inaugural Asian edition of MasterChef alongside home cooks from China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Jasbir Kaur’s passion to cook started when she moved to Sarawak after getting married. Jasbir, a mother of three and a homemaker, hopes to introduce traditional Punjabi cuisine to the younger generations.
Professionally a banker, Marcus Low finds inspiration from established chefs and believes the pressure of the competition will push him forward into the culinary world. He hopes to highlight Malaysian cuisine to the world.
Sophia Zulkifli is a 31 year-old homemaker and mother who cooks daily for family and friends. Sophia dreams to enter the culinary world one day as a chef, caterer or food critic. Her love for food has inspired her to enter MasterChef Asia.
Asia’s first MasterChef will receive his or her own cookbook, a USD$50,000 cash prize, a unique experience in Singapore worth USD$10,000, Panasonic home appliances worth USD$15,000, a paid internship at one of Carlton Hotel Singapore’s restaurants and a one-week stay at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
