The most basic method of cleansing our face is by using our bare hands but is it really the best method in getting all that daily gunk out of your face? There are many tools in the market that claim to clean your skin better, here are some of them.
Facial cloths
These cloths are usually soft microfiber cloths that are soft to the touch making them a good option for all skin types.
Silicon face brush
A small palm sized rubbery tool with tiny silicon bristles which claims to scrub off dead skin and blackheads while giving your face and nice calming massage.
Woven mesh sponge
The cleansing pouch is a smaller version of the large open weave cloths bags that are used as body scrubs. Pump your regular amount of cleanser or facial foam onto the pouch and rub it together to create a liberal amount of foam before spreading it onto your face. It doesn’t exfoliate as much as the cleansing cloth though.
The face brush
There are two types of face brushes, the manual type and the electronic version with replaceable heads for different purposes. The bristles on these brushes are softer so that it gets off the dirt without damaging the surface of your skin. Apply your cleanser onto the brush and simply move it gently across your face in circling motions for a minute or two then rinse as usual.
The popular electronic version called the Clarisonic Mia goes by the tagline, one minute a day for the best skin of your life. Many users claim that it has done wonders for their skin because the deep cleansing helps remove makeup, dirt and dead skin cells which allows for deeper penetration of skincare products such as creams and serums. It also means your makeup with glide on smoothly during application. It’s a handheld device with an oscillating brush head and costs about $119. You can get a cheaper version of the brush by SkinSonic which works just as well.
Facial cleansing tools may not be for everyone. Though you may feel you’re giving your face a more thorough, deeper cleansing, it can cause dryness and tiny injuries to your face.
Research shows that using tools to further exfoliate already dry skin may cause more dryness and irritation especially the woven mesh sponge and face brush. So, use the sparingly! Once or twice a week should be fine especially for those who have oily skin to remove excess sebum. And if you have dry and sensitive skin, opt for the softer and less abrasive facial cloth!
