There are so many reasons to eat vegetables that it almost feels redundant to keep enumerating them. However, in a recent study published in the “Evolution and Human Behavior” journal has revealed that you can look more beautiful by throwing in a mix of carotenoids in your diet.
Carotenoids are antioxidants which neutralize the damaging tissues and free radicals (formed in the process of ageing and under conditions of stress or diseases). They consist of dark-coloured pigments and typically, the darker the pigment in the food, the more carotenoids they contain.
The consumption of large amounts of fruits and vegetables rich in carotenoids such as carrots and tomatoes gives the skin a healthy golden tan, favorably distinguished from sun tanning. Hence, making a person more attractive! Which vegetables are high in carotenoids? These:
1. Sweet potatoes
2. Carrots
3. Carrot and tomato juices
4. Pumpkins
5. Cantaloupe and apricots
6. Spinach
7. Broccoli
Keep in mind that when preparing vegetables that have high amounts of carotenoids, it’s always good not to overcook them! You want to lock in as much nutrients as you can so use as little water or oil as possible cooking them. Better yet, if you can help it, eat them raw.
So we guess it’s back to basics then if you want to look more beautiful and want your skin to be a lot more attractive. It’s true what our mothers said then – to eat our veggies!
