Here at Lipstiq’s Man of the Week, we have brought you plenty of good-looking and interesting men for you to read about and get to know. This week is no different: we introduce to you the very charming and lead singer of The Maha Jeffery band, Mahathir Jeffery.
Name: Mahathir Jeffery
Age: 20
Occupation: Musician/ Law Student/ Event Organiser
Tell us a little bit about yourself, what you do etc.
Most of the time, I’m a musician. I sing and play the guitar in my band and occasionally I session on drums and sing for a couple of other bands as well. Offstage however, I study law and run events. I ran my first event – The Halloween Show, at Merdekarya last year and that hit off really well so now I run a weekly open mic over at AfterWerk in Scott Garden.
What about a woman do you find to be the biggest turn off?
Clinginess and entitlement. I’m the kind of guy who will text you probably once a day, with that said I need someone independent and I can’t handle women who expect to be treated like princesses.
If you had to, which would you give up, food or sex?
Pizza and sex sound pretty good. Don’t you think?
What do you think of the current music scene in kl?
I think the local music scene has some of the best talents but that’s only if you stretch out and look for them and that’s the problem with it. I say it’s a problem because most of the time you literally HAVE to look for them and most people won’t even spend ten ringgit to catch local acts. The scene is still lacking the support that it needs to properly propel itself but don’t worry we’ll get there, in time.
What do you love most about what you do?
I treat the band as a family and nothing feels better than pulling off an awesome show with them. We know each other very well musically so a lot of the time we pretty much just wing our shows. It’s just having fun on stage with your closest friends. That’s when most of the magic happens.
Tell us something about you that not most of your friends know about.
I wear my glasses a lot not because I wanna look like your Malay hipster next door but because I actually am short-sighted in one eye. Believe it or not, one eye has zero power and the other has 400. Why? I got into a fight with my house gate when I was a kid (don’t ask).
If you were given a million ringgit, what will you do with it?
Buy my parents a well deserved vacation (I wasn’t exactly an angel growing up haha) and enough fried chicken and steak to last me a while. I’m a fairly simple guy so I probably won’t use most of it. I’d rather give it to someone who needs it more.
Are you more of a boobs or butt kinda guy?
I like a balance in my life, yin and yang, so I’m pretty 50-50 on this one.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully touring with the band and travelling around the world. Tons of sights to see and cultures I’d love to experience.
