During an event that took place in Houston, Texas, guests were invited to celebrate OMEGA’s historical involvement in space exploration. Their Speedmaster watches were used by the first men who set foot on the moon in 1969, and have been used in every lunar landing since. Dubbed as “Moonwatches”, OMEGA became an instant icon, and had been a vital part in creating precise and efficient timepieces suitable for space missions. The event took place in a large aircraft hangar which had a beautiful display of the endless stars in the universe, and they were given a realistic setting, which “transported” them onto the moon.
OMEGA brand ambassador George Clooney spoke at the event saying, “This was a time for us in our country when we needed these people to dream. You gentleman are an inspiration to all of us here and I have to tell you what an honour it is to be standing up here with you.”
Clooney was in the company of seasoned astronauts in the likes of Gene Cernan, General Thomas Stafford, and Captain James Lovell, who all came to show their support for OMEGA’s constant innovation and legendary involvement in space exploration.
In 2015, OMEGA launched its latest collection of Speedmaster watches, which includes the Speedmaster ’57, the Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award, and the White Side of the Moon, as well as four new designs in their Dark Side of the Moon collection. The brand hopes to ignite the same brave spirit that has enabled so many incredible breakthroughs with men’s journey to outer space.
