Relationships take a lot of effort, time and work. You can’t simply expect to fall in love with someone that share similar interests as you and hope for everything to be smooth-sailing from then onwards. It takes a hell of a lot more than just falling in love because once the honeymoon phase is over, the two of you have got to do certain things to take your relationship from now into forever. So, what’s the secret for a forever kind of love exactly? Here are some of them:
Sometimes fights are just that – It’s totally normal to be madly in love with your partner and yet still be able to be mad at him. Couples fight and it’s completely normal. Not all fights have to lead to the end of the two of you.
A lot of times you’ve got to be selfless – You can’t have it your way all the time, even if he lets you. There are things that you’re completely not interested in but he wants to do them with you, and if so, you should make the effort to do them. Especially when it makes him happy that you’re right by his side doing it.
Not every purchase has to be expensive – If his favourite thing is a pretzel from Auntie Anne’s then you might want to get some on the way home because he will greatly appreciate it. It’s the little things that take your relationship a long way.
Always kiss – Before he leaves for work and as soon as gets home, give him a good kiss to let you know that he will be missed during the day and that you’re glad for when he is home.
Treat his family like your own – If family is an important thing to both you and him then you should treat his family like your own. Hang out with them, cook dinner for them from time to time and call to see how they are doing when he is not around. Your beau and his family will appreciate this more than you know.
Say “I love you” – You can never get tired of hearing these three words from someone you love, so it’s always better to say it often than never at all.
Take care of one another – Even before marriage and all that “in sickness and in health” stuff, you should always look after one another. Don’t expect him to solely take care of you and himself at the same time. He looks after you and your well-being, so you should do the same for him. Your relationship can only flourish from this.
Be his biggest supporter – No matter what it is about or who is saying it, if someone if talking smack about your partner, you should always defend them. Be his little trooper for when others speak ill of him as some people will do in life. And if he is working towards his goal, support his choices no matter how big and ridiculous they seem.
