It’s without a doubt that pork noodles is one of Malaysians’ many favourites. Anywhere you go, especially the Chinese coffee shops, you’re able to find pork noodles and some truly leave you wanting for more. Typically there are two types of pork noodles: one is with noodles and a bunch of pork ingredients like pork meat slices, crispy pork lard, minced pork and pork liver. Some even have pork intestines, but I always take a pass on that. The other type of pork noodle is called Sam Kan Chong, which is served with pork balls and blood sausage, also known as roasted Chinese sausages.
Here are my top 5 picks of the best pork noodles you can find in town.
Restoran A. Suria, Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya
Located on Jalan PJU 1/45, this corner Chinese coffee shop is where my love began for pork noodles. It’s not typical for one to serve pork noodles with yee mee (egg noodles) but I just prefer mine with it. The lady that prepares this delicious bowl of goodness is very, very generous with her pork ingredients too, and the chopped up cili padi just makes the entire meal that much better. If you’re in the area, this is definitely worth a try.
Champ’s, Bangsar Shopping Center, Kuala Lumpur
Slightly on the pricier side, the pork noodles at Champ’s is definitely worth every penny. I had my order of pork noodles there and ended being full for the longest time. For what you’re paying, you’re definitely getting your money’s worth because the portion served is no joke. It’s big and you better be really hungry if you’re eating there.
Jalan Batai, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur
I had heard so much about this coffee shop in Damansara Heights, I even heard that when they tried to shut this place down, people made such a big deal about it. So, I thought, it can only mean that the food is THAT delicious! I decided to go there for lunch one day and ordered myself a bowl of dry pork noodles with soup on the side. I was not disappointed one bit!
Restoran New Seaview, Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya
It took me a while to find this well-known spot for pork noodles and when I finally sat down, it took me some time before I got my bowl of order. But when I did, I was completely impressed and I finally understood why people go crazy over this bowl of pork noodles. They would even wait in line for ages to get their order and the uncle that was serving this dish didn’t seem like he had time to even breathe! If you’re in PJ and feel like having some pork noodles, then head to Restoran New Seaview. You won’t be disappointed, I promise you.
Gerai Food Loft, Setia Alam
Going slightly further than PJ, Gerai Food Loft is one small restaurant that hasn’t got enough publicity. This place might be quite a trek for some people but the food is totally worth the journey. If you’re into a more soup-like pork noodle that’s not too strong in flavour, Gerai Food Loft offers just that. Plus if you want a burst of spiciness, you can always ask for some cili padi, and they will give you a generous portion. While you’re there, try more than just pork noodles and you won’t be disappointed. Check out their Facebook page for more info.
