Jo Gilchrist knows well that there are worst things than a zit that you can’t seem to cover with makeup. How does she know this? Well, Gilchrist contracted a staph infection, which eventually left her immobile below the waist making her wheelchair-reliant. All from using a friend’s makeup brush.
According to the Daily Mail, the woman from Warwick, Australia thought something was seriously wrong when her back began to ache in February. The pain eventually became too much to bare and was rushed to the hospital where she found out that her spine had been damaged beyond repair.
Her friend feels “horrible” and discovered that she had a staph infection not too long after lending Gilchrist her makeup tools. The same bacteria entered Gilchrist’s body through an open pimple, which she brushed over.
In spite of such challenges, Gilchrist is not willing to give up just yet and it’s been reported that she is making progress.
Gilchrist told Warwick Daily News that she’s been able to walk for an hour or so a day, since allowed. She also said, “I got a wiggle out of my toes and I just keep fighting.”
“This has been a real wake up call. Before this I was just going through the motions and existing. But now I have a huge fight for life. If someone tells me I can’t do something, I keep going because just the look on their faces when I do it is worth it. “
Gilchrist has three months left of treatment to finish and what’s getting her through it is the fact that she will be able to be with her son at home soon.
