If you haven’t noticed the damage your daily eye makeup does to your lashes, it’s about time you start paying some crucial attention to your precious peepers. While we’d like to believe that serendipity is at work when love at first sight comes about, the truth is, it might have more to do with the way your eyes shine and sparkle thanks to a variety of womanly weapons you can work with (sorry guys!).
Among the daily stress that our eyes have to go through daily range from using mascara, eyeliners, fake lashes, to curling your lashes and removal of your eye makeup. This increases the chances of loss of lashes as well as brittle lashes. Just like your skin and hair, your lashes require the same amount of attention as well so here’s how you can keep those flutters wispy and full without the need for extensions (which by the way, is also bad for your lashes!).
Remove Your Makeup
Just like your face makeup, you should always remember to remove your eye makeup using makeup remover followed by cleansing milk especially if you’re using a waterproof mascara. Soak a cotton pad with cleansing oil or makeup remover and hold it to your closed eye for 20 seconds to allow the product to melt away your mascara as well as eyeshadow and eyeliner. Pat and wipe gently. Repeat steps with a new cotton pad until clean. Mascara and eyeliner can weaken and dry your lashes. It can also cause infection if left over night. Remember to wash your face with facial wash after you’re done!
Brushing Your Lashes
The old wife’s tale goes that repeated combing can make your hair grow faster because it stimulates growth. Well, looks like this little gem of advice works for lashes as well! You can get a lash comb from any beauty store, Daiso included or simply use an old mascara brush which you’ve washed and dried. Don’t use the original tube to store the brush, instead prop it upside down in a container which you use to store your other makeup brushes.
Use Lash Serum
Ah, lash serum. Do they work, do they not work? Are they just an expensive marketing gimmick? We’ve tried out the Lash Renewal Serum from L’oreal and surprisingly, it works! Our lashes were darker, thicker and had less fallout especially after mascara removal. Do note that results differ from person to person and it takes at least half the bottle to see results. These serums usually contain vitamin E, castor oil or olive extracts which help strengthen your lashes with nutrients. Apply daily every night before you sleep and wake up to fuller lashes!
A Healthy Diet
What goes inside, shows on the outside. A healthy diet is reflected in your skin, your hair and yes even your eyes. Consuming certain food can contribute to hair growth such as fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, dairy products, nuts and seeds. You can also try popping supplements such as vitamin A, B and E as well as Omega 3, a healthy oil for better hair growth. It also helps keep mood swings at bay while improving your skin. You should also have enough rest especially during the hours of 11pm to 1 am as that’s why your body starts in regenerative process.
Give your lashes a breather every week especially if you’re not going out by going barefaced. Don’t cover up your blemishes or imperfections with makeup or expensive skincare, instead work on keeping a healthy diet and lifestyle for top to toe perfection in the long run. Believe us, it shows!
