A passenger jet carrying 148 people crashed in the French Alps en route to Duesseldorf from Barcelona. No survivors are expected.
The crash site is located at Meolans-Revels, near the popular ski resort of Pra Loup.
The Germanwings Airbus A320 plane sent out a distress signal at 10:45am local time and then crashed in a remote, mountainous zone at an altitude of about 2,000 meters.
Authorities mentioned that there were some clouds present, but the cloud ceiling was not low and it didn’t seem like there was any turbulence. A probable number of victims are of German nationality.
Germanwings is a low-cost German airline that has been operating since 2002.
