How many of us wake up with less than perfect skin everyday? Problems like dryness, blemishes, and redness may not take all that long to form but they take longer to treat than we would like them to be.
Sure, you can always head over to a facial salon or spa and give your skin the treatment it needs but that might be a little costly to do everyday or even every weekend. You could head on down to the nearest drugstore but sometimes, over-the-counter products just don’t work how you want them to.
So, why not use some of the natural ingredients you might have at home for DIY fix that is sure to rid you of any skincare problem:
Banana and honey mask – If you have oily skin, this will be your saviour. Too much oil accumulated on your face can cause blemishes and pimples to form. Banana has vitamin C and zinc in it, which can help combat acne and control your skin’s natural oil.
How: Mash one banana (make sure it’s fully ripe) with two tablespoons of honey, and add a few drops of lemon juice together. Lather it on your face evenly and leave the mixture on for 15-20 minutes. Remove the mask with a washcloth that’s warm and pat your face dry!
Plum mask – This particular type of mask is fantastic for those with acne. Plum is a good source of vitamins A, C, E, K and B, not only that, they are also rich in carotene, potassium, iron and magnesium! How is a fruit with that many goodness inside it going to be bad for your skin? It won’t!
How: Make a puree of three to four plums that are ripe and mix with half a teaspoon of turmeric, one tablespoon of organic Greek yoghurt and one tablespoon of raw honey. Massage the mixed puree onto your skin and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Once you’re done, rinse off with warm water.
Honey and moisturizer – A saviour for dry skin, raw honey added to any moisturizer can help hydrate your skin better than most over the counter products. Honey is a natural humectant, which means they hold on to the moisture. Just be sure not too put too much or you will end up having a very sticky face.
How: Mix your regular moisturizer with just a few drops of honey and then apply. Simple!
Honey and pumpkin mask – This is another perfect mask for those with oily skin. Making and using this mask, is a fantastic way to exfoliate your skin gently and thanks to the raw honey ingredient, any inflamed blemishes can be calmed due to its anti-flammatory benefits.
How: Get one tablespoon of canned pumpkin, one teaspoon of raw honey and half a teaspoon of organic full-fat cream or buttermilk and mix them all. Allow the mixture to sit for 15 minutes on your face before rinsing it off with warm water.
Aloe vera and avocado mask – Perfect for those with dry skin, the fatty acids and vitamins in avocados can help hydrate the skin’s cells and lock in the moisture too. It can also help heal dry and flaky skin, while aloe vera will help sooth the skin.
How: Make a mixture of half an avocado, two tablespoons of aloe vera gel, one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of dry oatmeal. Apply the mixture to your face and let it stay there for 15 minutes. Once you’re done, rinse with some warm water and washcloth.
