After fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana shared their views about raising children in an interview with Panorama, Elton John has vowed never to wear Dolce & Gabbana ever again.
“We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one,” the interview quoted. “No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.” Dolce also mentioned that creating a child “must be an act of love”, adding, “You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that’s how it should be.”
“I call children of chemistry ‘synthetic children’. Uteri [for] rent, semen chosen from a catalogue.”
John, who has two children with David Furnish through a surrogate mother, responded on Instagram and announced that he would be boycotting the fashion house.
He wrote: “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic’. And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.”
IVF or in vitro fertilization is a process in which sperm is placed in the uterus for conception to happen. IVF combines the eggs and sperm outside the body in a laboratory. Once the embryo or embryos form, they are then placed in the uterus to develop. Many couples who go through infertility seek out IVF.
Many celebs including Ricky Martin, Ryan Murphy and John Barrowman are also in support of John and #BoycottDolceGabbana.
