Even the most well-kept feet will have a slight stench if they have been stuffed into a closed pair of shoes all day and of course, we’re not saying that your feet should smell like a bouquet of roses. But at the same time, it shouldn’t have people running for the hills as soon as you take your shoes off.
Have you ever wondered why your feet stinks and what are the causes? Well, that stench is actually an overgrowth of bacteria or fungus that’s residing on your feet. Here are some of the ways you can combat smelly feet:
Take turns
It’s very unlikely that you have only one pair of shoes because let’s face it, who can live that way? So, to beat the stinky feet syndrome, why not air out the shoes that you previously wore and opt for a different pair the next day. You wouldn’t wear the same pair of jeans twice would you? The smart thing to do is to air them out. Same goes for your gym shoes. If you work out everyday, you might want to invest in two pairs and rotate.
Let your feet breathe
If you’re in the car or sitting at your desk in the office, why not take off your shoes and allow for your feet to breathe. Letting fresh oxygen circulate can help combat the growth of fungi and bacteria, which causes that awful smell.
Treat your feet
Practice some at home remedies like soaking your feet in black tea for 20 minutes. The acid in the black tea will help kill microbes and close up the open pores, which means your feet will stay drier. Also, invest in an antifungal foot spray that you can spritz on your feet before layering on the socks. You can even spray the inside of your shoes with them.
Don’t forget socks
It does not matter if you’re wearing boots, sneakers or even ballet flats, wear the right socks for the right pair to avoid having smelly feet. Socks that are made from synthetic fabrics do better job to fend off perspiration but as long as you have got socks on, your feet won’t become a breeding ground for germs.
