Us Malaysians may not be that familiar with the Quokka but when I was in Perth last year, I had the privilege of bumping into one while I was riding my bike around Rottnest Island and let me tell you that they are super duper adorable.
The Quokka is a marsupial native to the land Down Under. It’s adorable and happy-looking. Some may even say that they’re a cuter and happier version of a rat. I disagree, because I think no rat would bother taking a selfie with you.
This new trend that’s taking Australia by storm is called the Quokka selfie. It’s basically taking selfies with a Quokka. Doesn’t get any more straight forward than that.
On the IUCN Red List, the Quokka is listed as ‘vulnerable’ and you’re not actually allowed to pick them up or anything like that because it’s a legit crime. But that doesn’t mean they are afraid of humans because they’re not and will be more than happy to approach you. So, if you’re in Australia and come across a Quokka, I’m pretty sure getting a selfie with it won’t be that difficult.
