Marks & Spencer (M&S) the iconic British retailer has unveiled its first store in Penang with the official opening of its brand new store at the Gurney Plaza shopping mall recently. The store is the first in Malaysia to feature the retailer’s new look womenswear department – designed to showcase the latest fashion collections, provide improved navigation and more outfit inspiration, leading to an enhanced shopping experience.
The new 1,400 square metre store is operated by M&S’s long standing franchise partner Robinson Group part of Al-Futtaim Group. Robinson Group now operates seven Marks & Spencer stores in Malaysia and 10 stores in Singapore. The new M&S at Gurney Plaza shopping mall joins M&S at KOMTAR Johor Bahru City Centre as the second M&S store to open outside of Klang Valley. The British Deputy High Commissioner to Malaysia, Mr Paul Rennie OBE, joined M&S Regional Director of Asia, Bruce Findlay, to officially open the new M&S store with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony this morning. Customers were then invited to join in on the opening day celebrations, hosted by Elaine Daly, renowned Malaysian TV host, model and actress, which included a fashion show of M&S’s latest collections across womenswear and menswear and also a traditional Lion Dance performance.

Our new store brings our popular quality fashions and food to customers in Penang for the first time. We’ve received a great response from our customers and we’re looking forward to welcoming more people to the store.”

- High impact ‘Welcome Zones’ highlighting the latest trends and most popular lines for customers as soon as they enter the store
- A new look for destination departments such as Dress Shop and Holiday Shop
- Improved in store navigation with more visual displays at the front of each department
- More outfit suggestions displayed throughout the store to inspire and delight customers
