Meet Amelia, the doe-eyed girl with a very apparent love for animals, which her photographer mom Robin Schwartz never misses to capture.
The series is called Amelia and the Animals, and it all began when she was 3 years old. Since then she has been posing with animals you can only dream of like baby tigers, elephants and such. Of course, she poses with common animals too and they’re just as cute.
The first image in the book is of 3-year-old Amelia with a chimp named Ricky, which was shot in 2002. Thanks to a book which she published in 1993 called Like Us: Primate Portraits that consisted chimpanzee photos, Schwartz were able to be in touch with some “chimp people” who helped her have access to other exotic animals that Amelia was able to pose with.
While many seem to think that Amelia feels anything but enjoyment around these animals because of her lack of smiling and laughing, I think what she has with the animals is a genuine love for them, and a real connection. Unlike most kids that would pat (and sometimes not realise that they are hurting them) the animals vigorously, Amelia respects them and has a calming effect on them.
