Mention the area of Subang and images of long, nightmarish traffic instantly come to mind. But horrid traffic aside, the middle class neighbourhood of Subang Jaya and its next door suburb, Sunway aren’t doing too bad when it comes to coffee culture. In fact, so many are sprouting out at the moment we simply had to do a story on it.
We promise these 11 new coffee shops will redeem the area’s reputation if ever, you find yourself stuck in traffic or if you’re simply looking for a good cup of joe.

This minimalist, monochrome cafe doesn’t only serve coffee but they are also popular for their juices by local brand This Juice Co. We love how one can balance out a slice of sugary cake with a bottle of fresh juice!

4. Tryst
Tryst is one of those places where you can get pancakes all day long. The menu is extensive with a good mix of sweet and savoury dishes. The highlight for us was the iced chai latte which was thick, creamy and well balanced. Tryst is also a popular hangout amongst shisha smokers.

5. Ode Art Cafe
We stumbled upon this artsy cafe one weekend and it’s our favourite in SS15 so far. Ode Art is a community space for artists and you’ll definitely notice that once you walk in. Large working tables make this a great place for those who want to work out of the office and you can definitely buy some interesting pieces of art here. Try the Mint Chocolate Cheesecake, Flat White and Iced Americano.
Location: No.112, First Floor, Jalan SS15/4B, 47500 Subang Jaya
Opening hours: Tue – Thu: 8:00 am – 8:00 pm | Fri – Sun: 10:00 am – 10:00 pm
6. Underground Société
Underground Société is run by the same brothers who brought you CoffeeSociété and Garage 51. A refreshing take on the hidden bar concept, the late opening hours and great coffee make this place a keeper. The marriage of fancy dishes such as lobster thermidor at a reasonable price and inventive drinks like carbonated coffee on tap? Pure genius. Can we just camp there already?
Location: 68, Jalan PJS 11/7, Bandar Sunway, 46150 Subang Jaya
Opening hours: Monday-Sunday: 11 am-2 am
7. GreySkyMorning
Located in the industrial heart of Subang Jaya, GreySkyMorning serves up some of the most unique teas we’ve ever come across (try the Tsugaru Green Apple) and the coffee is great here. The cakes are to die for, especially the Salted Caramel and Hazelnut Chocolate Chip. Parking is easy (which is rare in Subang!) and the cafe is split into two levels with lots of natural light.
Location: EX8, No. 3 Jalan SS13/4, Subang Jaya
Opening hours: Tue – Sun: 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
8. Brew & Bread Coffee Bar
One City in USJ might be a little sleepy but we chanced upon this cool cafe and it really isn’t too bad at all. The menu is simple, coffee is good with a lot of plug points in a cosy environment – which is really all you need if you think about it.
9. Oh Scooter Cafe
Now, this cafe takes the cake when it comes to strange yet delicious. Oh Scooter’s most popular item is their signature coffee which is coffee served with cotton candy. Coffee is poured onto the ball of sugary goodness and we must say it’s a clever and fun way to play with your food. Located across Main Place mall, this is one cafe that definitely pushes the envelope when it comes to coffee drinking.
Location: Jalan USJ 21/10, Subang Jaya, 47630
Opening hours: Mon – Tue: 10:30 am – 11:30 pm | Thu – Sun: 10:30 am – 11:30 pm
10. OW:L Espresso
Located next to Inti College, OW:L Espresso is that other place where you can get the popular Korean bingsu besides Caffe Bene. The bingsu served here apparently has a finer and softer texture compared to Caffe Bene’s coarse texture. Coffee wise, OW:L serves Marley Coffee, an organic coffee brand by the legendary Bob Marley’s son.

Opening hours: 10 am to 1 am
11. Flat White
Flat White at SS15 isn’t exactly the newest kid on the block but it is a must-try. Its “by coffee junkies for coffee junkies” philosophy is evident in the way the place is run. The coffees are fabulous and the food equally delectable along with the occasional cupping sessions if one wishes to learn more about coffee. Try the cold brew coffee, Nutella cappuccino, ice cube espresso and caramel submarine.
