Many makeup artists have gained international recognition for their exceptional skills with using makeup as a medium and a face as a canvas. Hence, this year, L’Oréal Paris is set to defy convention with The Brush Contest, the world’s first international makeup designer contest happening exclusively on YouTube.
L’Oréal Paris is introducing a platform for makeup enthusiasts to show off their skills, and be in the running to win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a L’Oréal Paris Makeup Designer. As part of the L’Oréal Paris Makeup Designer team, you get to unleash your imagination and turn faces into masterpieces with gorgeous makeup looks.
To join the contest, you have to be a true beauty junkie and you have to be at least 18 years old. The contest mechanics are as follows:
1. Create a makeup video tutorial inspired by the theme ‘Color Clash’ (maximum length 3 minutes).
Makeup of any brand can be used in the video, but competitors’ branding cannot be displayed or highlighted in the video. Contestants can create the looks on their own faces or on a model’s face. A full-face makeup look is compulsory.
2. Submit the final video.
Log on to www.thebrushcontest.com and submit the video in the “COMPETE!” section. Fill in the registration form and introduce yourself.
That’s it!
30 best submitted videos will be revealed for public voting, and the top 10 shortlisted videos will secure a place in the National Finals, where these budding makeup artists will attend a Makeup Designer Bootcamp. On 8 March 2015, the public will also get the chance to meet the top 10 Malaysian finalists at the Watson’s Alamanda flagship store and experience a makeover.
The winner will be chosen based on total scores, and he or she will represent Malaysia at the International Grand Finale in Paris, with 12 other international finalists. The finalists will then showcase their skills by making over the industry’s top supermodels and faces of L’Oréal Paris, such as Lara Stone, Karlie Kloss, Freida Pinto and Barbara Palvin. The Grand Finale will also be broadcast on YouTube on 1 May 2015, and will be hosted by L’Oréal Paris spokesperson Eva Longoria.
The winner will walk away with a professional contract with the L’Oréal Paris Makeup Designer team for 1 year, worth 100,000€. The winner also gets to join L’Oréal’s behind-the-scenes team at the most glamorous, star-studded event: the Cannes International Film Festival. Taking part in beauty shoots, tutorial creation, interviews and worldwide media coverage are simply part and parcel of the job.
The Brush Contest begins 19 January 2015 and ends 12 February 2015. It is open to professionals, amateurs, bloggers, vloggers and YouTubers. For more information, log on to www.thebrushcontest.com.
