Goodbye, little punk princess. Hello lady!

Singer. Songwriter. Actress. And more recently, fashion designer. Avril Lavigne broke into the music industry slightly less than a decade ago with her debut album, “Let Go”. We all remember her as the stripy-tie-wearing, skater-girl-stylin’, pop punk princess.

But she soon evolved into a lady, when she traded her skater gear in for more feminine outfits (although they still exuded a disposition of angst) such as black tutus, skinny jeans, and heels. The look was completed with Avril’s experiment with the colour pink.

Then we heard news of her short-lived wedded bliss to Sum 41 front man, Deryck Whibley, whom she married at a young age of 22. The marriage lasted a little over three years before they both called it quits, citing irreconcilable differences.

Still, Avril held strong to her image, keeping her music career going with a few added “extra features”. Many people have once or twice thought that she has since fallen off the radar but the truth is, she has been quietly but steadily expanding her status by appearing in a few films (including “Fast Food Nation” and voicing the character of Heather in the animated film, “Over the Hedge”.

She has also released her own line of perfumes (“Black Star” in 2009 and “Forbidden Rose” in 2010), started up her own clothing brand (“Abbey Dawn”, which was a part of “New York Fashion Week” in 2009), as well as continuously involving herself in a number of charitable acvities (e.g. Amnesty International, Make-a-Wish Foundation, YouthAIDS).

Earlier this year, the previously tomboyish Avril Lavigne proved to the world that she still has every ounce of talent that she gained popularity for with the release of her fourth studio album (after a four-year long hiatus), “Goodbye Lullaby”. Following the release of the album, Avril went on to describe it as, “More stripped down, deeper – all the songs are very emotional”.

Here’s the official music video for “Wish You Were Here” off her “Goodbye Lullaby” album, which was just released less than a week ago:

She then went on to say in her official blog that she spent about 20 minutes bawling her eyes out for the video, and that what her fans around the world was watching was the real, raw, and exposed side of Avril Lavigne.

Our take on her comeback? We say, congratulations, Avril Lavigne. For you most certainly have grown up and blossomed into a beautiful young lady who’s just more than “teenage angst”. May you continue to reach new heights in your career!
