The holiday season is a fabulous time to learn and experiment with new makeup looks and incorporate a festive touch into your usual colour regime. Thanks to our wonderful friends at shu uemura, we popped by their store one afternoon for a quick makeup lesson using the new Karl Lagerfeld collection, Shupette. We learned two gorgeous cat eye looks, a sweet one for the day and a dramatic one for the night, and they are both super easy to achieve. What we love about these looks? They’re festive and unique enough without being too over the top!
Day Look: Tokyo Kawaii
- At shu uemura, “Beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin” is the brand and Mr. Uemura’s core philosophy. So before any colour is applied, prepping one’s skin with good skincare and a base is of crucial importance. Shu’s accredited artist, Samantha Lee prepped our model, Carmen’s skin with the Tsuya Essence and Tsuya Skin UV Under Base Mousse. After prepping the skin, apply concealer under eye area and cover up any spots of blemishes you have. Shape and fill in brows. Follow with the silk cushion cheek in pink (RM100) and blend from the center of cheeks upwards towards the hairline.
- Next, line eyes with the eye-need-shu liner (RM75)in gala brown. Draw on eyelids and extend outwards to create a cat eye line.
- Using the shupette has-it-all eye & lip palette (RM350), apply the rusty maroon eyeshadow shade on the right column of the palette on the lower crease of eyelids. Then, use the pink eyeshadow shade and blend on the top part of your eyelids.
- Line the outer corner of your lower lashline. Then, use the light gold shade to highlight brow bone and below the waterline.
- Dust some pampearl-me face powder (RM140) on T-zone and chin to highlight your features.
- Complete the look with a bold lip colour, blending the bright fuchsia lipcolour (1st colour from left) and pastel pink colour (3rd from left)
Night Look: Parisienne Chic
- Follow the same prepping step as the look above, line eyes with the eye-need-shu liner (RM75) in midnight black. Touch up the sides with a cotton bud if you need to, in order to achieve a clean line.
- Using the grey shade on the left column of the palette, create a semi-circle shape below the brow bone. Be careful to not apply this colour on your entire eyelid, what you want is to trace a line on your brow bone.
- Blend in the charcoal shade from the outer corner of eyes into the center of your eyelids.
- Blend in the frosty blue shade from inner corner of eyes towards the center of eyelids. Be sure to blend in the three shades to create a seamless gradient.
- Apply the frosty white shade on brow bones as a highlighter.
- Line outer corner of lower lashline.
- Use a bronzy coloured blush to create definition and finish off the look with deep red lips. Samantha mixed the light peach colour on the palette with the red one next to it (both on the far right of the palette).
Now that you know two versions of the versatile cat eye, be sure to try them out this Christmas and New Year’s! The shupette has-it-all eye & lip palette is a handy premium palette that has eight eye shadow colours and six lip colours. It comes with an exclusive fur pouch and is priced at RM350. For those who want just a portion of the palette, there are two options: the eye-need-shu trio has three pearly eye shadow shades (available in two colours) and the rouge bonbon fantasy trio has three lips shades in vivid candy colour pay-off (available in two colours), priced at RM120.
