Are you one of those people who have way too much clutter that you’ve been meaning to clear but never really found the time to do so? We’ll be the first to admit that our closet needs some serious de-cluttering and thanks to a new mobile app, you can now sell your items the easy way!
Meet Carousell, a mobile app that lets you list any item, new or old, with the use of your trusty smartphone. All you have to do is download the app, snap a picture of the item you want to sell, list out the item with a short description along with a price and simply wait for offers! You can do all this in less than 30 seconds! To purchase listed items, potential buyers will only need to chat with sellers via a built-in private chat messenger. How easy and convenient is that?
Launched in 2012 in Singapore, Carousell is the brainchild of three National University of Singapore students – Quek Siu Rui, Lucas Ngoo and Marcus Tan – who spent a year in Silicon Valley learning about the tech business, under a partnership that NUS has with Stanford University. According to co-founder Siu Rui, “Anyone who knows how to take a photo or text with a smartphone essentially knows how to buy and sell on Carousell.”
Carousell has been ranked as Singpore’s No.1 Lifestyle and Shopping app and is popular amongst youth and young adults. To date, over 8 million listings have been made on Carousell and millions of those listings have been transacted successfully. Backed by Sequoia Capital (the people who funded Apple, WhatsApp and Instagram), Carousell’s mission is to inspire everyone out there to start selling their items.
