It’s the holidays and if you’re looking to do something relaxing with the family, you should probably organize a movie marathon night/weekend. Nothing is more fun than getting curled up with your loved ones with bowls of popcorn in hand. But when you’re compiling the DVDs, make sure you stay away from movies that will bring on the awkward vibe when watching with the fam. Here’s a list of some of the classics and feel-good movies you might want to include in your family movie marathon. We promise you won’t be bored to death.
1. You’ve Got Mail
This movie tells the story of Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox, who are the neighbourhood bookstore rivals. They both meet one another online without knowing each other’s real identity, which begins their charming and anonymous internet romance. This movie is romantic but not so mushy that it will make you cringe while watching it with the parental unit and Tom Hanks’ dog in the movie is super adorable.
2) The Holiday
This is one rom-com that you can watch with the family and the movie is set during Christmas, which earns it extra points. After experiencing bad breakups. Two women, one from America and the other from Britain, swap homes. What they were expecting was a change of scenery and a relaxing time. What they weren’t was to fall in love with a local man.
3. Silver Linings Playbook
This movie won the hearts of many when it came out and its sure to win the heart of your family’s movie marathon. It also stars America (and probably the world’s) favourite, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro. After losing everything and spending time in a mental institution, Pat meets Tiffany, who offers a hand in helping him get his wife back if he does one thing for her. That’s when the entire movie gets interesting.
4. Good Will Hunting
If you have never watched this movie, make sure to include it in your marathon. To this day, this movie remains to be one of the best movies ever made. It’s also the movie that put Ben Affleck and Matt Damon on the map. It also stars our beloved Robin Williams in what could be deemed as one of his finest performances ever. There’s a lot of heart in this movie but also enough wit to keep it light. Highly recommended!
5. Love Actually
This is truly one of the best romantic comedies of all time. So many different storylines to follow but all lovable at the same time. And who doesn’t love a movie with Hugh Grant in it and much like the title, there’s plenty of love to get into in the movie.
