It’s that time of the year again! Some of our favourite coffee joints have already whipped out their holiday specialities, but nothing is as comforting as having a yummy mug of hot chocolate in hand. Regular hot chocolate is good, but hot chocolate with a twist is even better. So, why not try out these hot chocolate recipes with a little extra somethin’ somethin’? Don’t forget your whipped cream and marshmallows, people!
1. Nutella Hot Chocolate
1 cup milk
2 tbsp Nutella
1 tbsp cocoa powder
A pinch of salt
Warm up the milk until it’s hot but not boiling. Add in your Nutella and use a whisk to mix everything to make sure there are no lumps. Mix in your cocoa powder and salt last.
2. Orange Hot Chocolate
1 cup milk
1/2 tbsp sugar
2 oz chopped dark chocolate
1/2 tbsp grated orange zest
Combine the orange zest and the milk. Heat the mixture for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and strain the milk. Discard the orange zest and put the milk back on the heat. Add in your dark chocolate and sugar. Keep mixing until everything is smoothly combined.
3. Irish Hot Chocolate
1 cup milk
2 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Put the milk on medium heat until it’s hot, but don’t let it boil. Stir in your chocolate chips and keep mixing until smooth. Finally, add in your Irish Cream and mix well before serving.
4. Caramel Hot Chocolate
1/2 cup milk
5 oz chopped milk chocolate
1/4 cup heavy cream
3 tbsp caramel sauce
Warm up the milk until it’s hot. Adjust the heat so that the milk doesn’t boil. Add in the chocolate and stir until the mixture is smooth. Add in the heavy cream and caramel sauce. Stir thoroughly and serve immediately. You can also drizzle extra caramel sauce over your drink!
5. Earl Grey Hot Chocolate
1 earl grey tea bag
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Put the tea bag into the water and let it sit. While doing so, warm up the milk so that it’s hot enough to melt the chocolate. Add in the chocolate chips and stir until everything is combined. Pour in the tea, heat it for about 2 more minutes and serve immediately.
6. Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate
1 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
4 oz chopped milk chocolate
1/4 cup of smooth peanut butter
Warm up the milk and then add in the chocolate. Stir and make sure the chocolate melts completely. Add in the peanut butter and whisk the mixture so that everything is properly combined. Add in the heavy cream and mix well before serving.
7. Spicy Cinnamon Hot Chocolate
1 cup milk
5 oz chopped dark chocolate
1/4 tsp cinnamon
A pinch of cayenne pepper
Warm up the milk and put in the chocolate. Stir until the mixture is smooth. Add in the cayenne pepper and cinnamon. Mix thoroughly and serve. Alternatively, you can throw in a cinnamon stick to flavour the milk before adding in your chocolate.
