Few things are as wonderful as toothpaste because it’s one of those everyday items that you can use for many things. Here are five of my favourite things to do with toothpaste besides brushing my teeth.

1. Scratch remover

Forget your fancy scratch removers that cost way too much for a one-time use. If you’re as clumsy as I am, use toothpaste to remove scratches from your watch, mobile phone screen, glass table, or silverware. So long as the surface is metal, chrome or glass, you can use this trick. Put a small blob of toothpaste on a dry polish cloth and rub in circular motions.

2. Pimple buster

If you have a large zit that is colonising your face, cover it with toothpaste and leave it overnight. The ingredients in toothpaste will kill the bacteria and the cooling sensation from the mint is soothing and refreshing.

3. Stain remover

Whenever I have a stain on any of my white garments (which is quite often, believe me!) I rub toothpaste into the stain and leave it for a few minutes before gently scrubbing it with some water, followed by a normal wash.

4. Shoe polish

This works especially well with shoes that have a white base. Squeeze a bit of toothpaste onto a dry cloth and polish away. It removes the grey from your white shoes and makes it look brand new!

5. Deodorising hand wash

Handling food items such as fish, seafood, onion and garlic will leave your hands smelling funky and ordinary soaps just don’t work at times. Toothpaste on the other hand is perfect for this. A generous pea size will do the trick – all you have to do is lather it like soap and rinse off.

Note: Opt for the regular white variety instead of gel types to achieve the best results
