He definitely wasn’t sorry for putting on a party rockin’ performance!
Sky Blu and his sidekick uncle, Redfoo, released two chart-topping albums; Party Rock, which debuted in 2009 and garnered a Grammy nomination for “Best Dance Album”, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive weeks and reaching #1 in over 19 countries. Sorry for Party Rocking, on the other hand sealed the duo’s staying power. To date, the duo known as LMFAO have sold over 7 million albums in the US alone.
Known as The Party President, Sky Blu was recently in town for the grand launch of Play Club @ The Roof. Before Sky started popping champagnes, we sat down with the guy and asked him a couple of interesting questions. Check them out below!
What would you say has been the highlight of your career so far?
The highlight of my career so far? Hmm…Probably playing Staples Center, which is one of the biggest sports arenas in my hometown. Before Foo and I even started LMFAO, we’ve always dreamed that we would sell out Staples Center on our own and we did. I mean we’ve had sold out shows around the world but that was very special because it was sold out, all our family members were there, and even the energy before the show was so dense and amazing. Everybody I knew was there and it was just WOW! It was a beautiful experience.
What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever experienced or seen during a party?
Here’s a good one. I was at a party and I was talking to these three girls and then a dude comes over, he says, “Hey, my name is Bob” or some sh*t right, one of the girls then says, “You look like a porn star”. Here’s where it gets gnarly. You want me to continue? Let me put on my glasses first. Anyway, Bob says, “Yeah I’m a porn star. I’ll have sex with you right here”. She says, “No, you won’t”. Next thing you know Bob picks her up, bends her over and they start having sex while continuing in the conversation that I was having with the other two ladies. So now, there’s people having sex and we’re all talking about everything. I was 19, at this grown up party so yeah. Haha.
Tell us something that your fans don’t know about?
I have a personalised skateboard ring in my studio. So, while I’m on breaks I skate around. [laughs]
What does the rest of 2014 and the new year hold for you?
I’m working on releasing a few records, so 2015 will be the release of my single on New Year’s, followed by a lot of music. Music that I am so honoured to be a part of. I am someone who really views his music as art, I could care less about money, truly. I meditate a lot and it’s more important for me to feel happiness and joy than it is for the money, not saying that it would be a by-product of what I do. I mean it’s nice but what I do is for the love, my music is my art. So now, people are going to see that side of me, but I still party like a motherf*cker so it’s all good!
