Just when you think ice cream is becoming boring (vanilla, strawberry, chocolate?), two Malaysian entrepreneurs successfully fuses the famous dessert with familiar local flavours such as “Teh Tarik”, “White Coffee”, and “Horlicks”, and keeps us addicted.
Enter Lee Ee Vee and Tee May Yee of “The Last Polka”, both lovers of yummy frozen confections. Your favourite “The Last Polka” flavor exists because of May Yee’s creative ice cream experimentation. While she was still in London, she would whip up ice cream in a small freeze-bowl ice cream maker to bring to parties. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Fast forward to 2009, “The Last Polka” officially started as a home-based business, where ice cream is made using the French custard method, with eggs and cream. No wonder it tastes so good! Ee Vee and May Yee pride themselves in knowing that their strength lies in the contents of their products and we certainly do not dispute that! As if made with love, ice creams from “The Last Polka” are all made with 100% natural ingredients, combined with the old school Asian flavours we love.
And everybody has their favourites. Our personal favourite is the “Salted Gula Melaka” and the “Horlicks” flavor. But their best seller is still the “Mango” ice cream. More recently, “The Last Polka” introduced a “Durian” flavour. Talk about ice cream that hits close to home, and hits the spot!
Lightly creamy with a little bit of air, the flavours aren’t too intense and is definitely something you’d enjoy at any time of the day..or night. The ice cream retails at RM23 for a regular flavour and RM30 for a premium flavour (for the 500ml tubs of pure addictive goodness!). But you can also get the yummylicious ice cream at The Bee, Jaya One at only RM6.50 per scoop.
For more information visit their Facebook page (they have a list of outlets where they stock their ice creams!) or their website.
