While you may not be able to count on celebrity marriages to last, there is definitely one thing you can be sure of: unforgettable and stunning wedding gowns. There is something about wedding dresses… They’re so delicate, beautiful and somewhat a beacon of hope and love. To celebrate one of my best friend’s upcoming wedding and her very own unforgettable wedding gown, I thought we should take a walk down memory lane and marvel at some of the most frothy gowns that have captured our hearts.
Gwen Stefani
Gwen’s always had a very unique style that probably only she herself could make work but we weren’t entirely surprised when she chose this custom ombré John Galliano for Dior dress to get married in. The dress captured Gwen’s one-of-a-kind fashion approach and also showed us a more romantic and demure side of the singer. We can’t blame Gwen for getting married to Gavin Rossdale again, just so she could wear this stunning dress another time!
Princess Grace Kelly
This list would not be complete if the timeless gown worn by Grace Kelly was not included. Designed by Helen Rose, a costume designer for MGM, the delicately detailed gown suited the Hollywood darling. Her wedding to Prince Rainier III of Monaco may have been the wedding of the century but the dress worn by Princess Grace set the bar for all wedding gowns to come.
Kim Kardashian
When Kim Kardashian married Kanye West, she wore a wedding gown so beautiful that it completely trumped the one she wore when she got married to Kris Humphries. Designed by Givenchy’s creative director Ricardo Tisci, the dress was absolutely breathtaking and even more so when worn by the bride. The lace train had our knees weak and we just fell in love with all the intricate detailing.
Catherine Middleton
Kate was an absolute vision on her big day. For quite some time, people were speculating what Prince William’s bride will be wearing on their wedding day and finally on April 29, 2011 she wore a gown by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. Kate wore her stunning wedding dress matching it with a pair of Alexander McQueen shoes.
Lady Diana Spencer
Next up on the list is Kate Middleton’s late mother-in-law, Lady Di. Her wedding was often described as the fairytale wedding, even though her marriage to Prince Charles didn’t end up lasting all that long. She had a wedding gown that would make even Cinderella jealous. The puff-sleeved, ruffled, silk taffeta gown was embelished with lace, sequins, and more than 10,000 tiny pearls. If that’s not impressive, just look at the train on that dress! It’s longer than the street I live on.
Cindy Crawford
Another John Galliano piece on the list, Cindy Crawford’s dress was simple but simply delightful! The slipdress and no shoes was the perfect look for her beach wedding to Rande Gerber. Only a supermodel like Cindy could wear a short wedding dress that is short and still make it look so chic.
Alicia Keys
The soulful singer looked like a goddess in her ivory-silk, Grecian-inspired Vera Wang wedding dress when she said ‘I do’ to rapper Swizz Beatz.
Kaley Cuoco
I never thought a wedding dress in any other colour but white could ever look right but Kaley Cuoco’s proved me very wrong. When she swapped vows with Ryan Sweeting, Kaley chose a dress that was strapless and in petal-pink. It was absolutely an exquisite piece designed by Vera Wang and had brides all around the world wanting a coloured wedding gown.
Angelina Jolie
When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got married, the world thought, “Finally!” We were all dying to see what the mother of six chose to wear on the big day and it was a design by Luiqi Massi, the master tailor at Atelier Versace. What was really unique about the dress was the sewn designs from her children’s drawing in her wedding gown and veil.
